A 15th C "Court" Watchcoat for a Fencing Guildmaster.

I was asked by Zebee (Silfren, to the SCA) to make a courtier's watchcoat for her position as a Master of the Guild of Defence. She is a superb fencer, and wanted to represent the guild wearing a parti-coloured coat in the guild colours of silver and blue, with a badge hand-sewn by Tariq ibn Jelal on the breast. She also specially requested the option of having her sleeves open or closed for temperature control, which was an important factor as she intended to wear the outfit in Perth in the middle of the Australian summer - and the fabric she chose was not lightweight!

The closure of the coatsleeves uses a combination of silver and pearl buttons, and silver braid arranged slightly tortuously to form a decorative fastening along the very edge of the opening. The sleeves are lined in deep red and black-shot raw silk, so that it flashes the colour when open.
